A New Service from
NTEP!

The National Turfgrass Evaluation (NTEP) announces a new service, Custom Data Analysis, for its members and other interested parties. This service, developed at the request of many members and sponsoring companies, allows more specific data analysis than is currently presented in NTEP annual or final reports.

Three unique data analysis options are offered (see accompanying brochure). Option 1 provides a regional or local analysis of data using locations that you specify. For example, option 1 is useful for determining the best Kentucky bluegrass varieties for New England or the Mid-Atlantic states. If your interest is identifying the top grasses for summer performance or other seasons, option 2 fits the bill. This analysis allows you to specify data for particular months using either all the test locations available or just locations you choose. To compare the performance of only a select group of varieties, choose option 3. Or if these options are inadequate, please contact us to discuss custom tailoring an analysis to your needs.

On-Site Overseeding
Trial Planned

NTEP, the United States Golf Association (USGA) and the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) have agreed to cooperate on a trial to evaluate grasses for overseeding of bermudagrass fairways. This trial will be established and evaluated on golf courses under actual fairway conditions. Similar to the on-site bentgrass and bermudagrass putting green trials now being tested at sixteen sites across the USA, this trial will be limited to commercially available varieties, blends or mixtures and those very close to commercialization.

An advisory committee consisting of representatives from universities, the turfgrass seed industry, USGA, GCSAA and NTEP are currently discussing and refining the details of this project. Ten golf courses across the southern USA will be chosen based on their geographical location, proximity to a land-grant university turfgrass research program and the willingness of the club and the superintendent to participate. Geographical areas under consideration include the (continued on pg. 3, column 3)

Preliminary Report now Available!

A preliminary report of data collected in 1998 from NTEP official and on-site trials is now available on the NTEP web site (http://www.ntep.org/). This data is for information purposes only and should not be used in publications or advertising. Complete NTEP reports will be published and available starting in mid-to-late April.
